IMPORTANT NOTICE
ID Cards - Official Comments Deadline: Tuesday, 20th July
BE SURE TO SEND IN YOUR COMMENTS AND MOVE THIS EMAIL ON!

BACKGROUND:
Many people probably haven't a clue about the Home Office's Consultation on ID Cards. The consultation period has a deadline of Tuesday, 20th July. Does the public know this? Have we seen adverts about the Legislation on Identity Cards consultation document (Ref CM 6178) that was published in April, 2004?

Have you seen the deadline published in any newspaper .... anywhere?

OK, so please read on.

The public has got to write off to The Stationery Office or call 0845 702 3474, fork out 16.10 or alternatively you can access the document for FREE on line from the Home Office website. http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/docs3/identitycardsconsult.pdf

Then the public has to make sense of it all before commenting on it. Perhaps there are hopes that not too many of us will bother to get this far!

The Home Office is rolling out the voluntary aspects of ID cards that will turn COMPULSORY (no dates of course) with unknown details that will only appear at the Regulation stage of the legislation. Does this sound a bit dodgy?

IT WILL BE A BIT LATE TO CAMPAIGN THEN

The ID Cards Bill will become the ID Cards Act. Ring the alarm bells now for people to wake up, sit up and get asking questions before we all have to line up.

Read "Everything you never wanted to know about the UK ID card" it's at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/05/complete_idcard_guide/
It's witty, straightforward and a lot shorter that the Home Office's 120 pages.
