My personal journey from pending AIDS victim to AIDS rethinker and the
larger implications the story evokes are featured in a double segment on
ABC's 20/20. The show airs on World AIDS Day, Friday December 1st. Please
check local listings for the time and channel in your area. The show is
followed by a live internet chat with yours truly (yikes--I can barely
send e mails!).

From what the producer tells me, there's no lack of drama. From footage of
Charlie's birth to my interview with Connie Chung and sound bite sparring
with Dr. Maltide Krim of AmFAR, the show packs in lots of food for thought
in 18 minutes. It seems there will be something to inspire and/or anger
everyone on all sides of the issue.
As you may know, 20/20 became interested in doing a show on the topic
after Newsweek drop kicked me into the media spotlight with "The HIV
Disbeliever," a mostly unfavorable four page report that imagined me as
the mother of all AIDS dissidents. Although brimming with unfounded
assertions, dopey ideas, and the usual name calling, the article has
brought nothing but good things our way. I continue to be amazed by the
number of people who see through the spin of Newsweek.
Immediately following the article, I was contacted by 60 Minutes, 20/20,
Good Morning America, CNN and other news shows. Every producer wanted "an
exclusive" so I had to pick one program. I picked 20/20 because they
wanted to show the human side of the story which I think makes a better
introduction than hard science.
Let's hope the program will open up some minds and some meaningful
discussions.
For anyone interested, a video tape copy of the broadcast can be
purchased from ABC for about $15.
To everyone in the states, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Take care,
Christine
