The question of life on Venus has long been a human curiousity in the same manner as Mars. Edgar Rice Burroughs and other sci-fi/fantasy writers have envisioned fabulous civilizations on Venus. Crystals, cities, monsters, slaves, palaces and gods have been conceived to be on our sister planet.
Arthur Matthews was the last person to have worked with Nikola Tesla; the great scientist/engineer of AC, radio, TV and wireless electricity. In the 1940s, Matthews and Tesla co-authored a book called The Wall of Light. This was the only non-technical book Tesla ever wrote (can be purchased thru Health Research). Matthews claimed to have had a close encounter with Venusians. They landed on his property in Canada and told him that Tesla was one of them.
From The Wall of Light:
'Tesla had strange ideas. He always thought he came from the planet Venus. He said as much to me, and the crew of a Venus spaceship said in one of their first messages that a male child was 'born' on board their craft during its trip from Venus to Earth in July, 1856. The little boy was called Nikola, which is the reverse of his family town on Venus. That town is ALOKIN. The ship landed at midnight between July ninth and tenth in a remote mountain province in what is now Yugoslavia. There, according to arrangements, the child was placed in the care of a good man and his wife. This message was first received by Arthur Matthews of Lake Beauport, Quebec, Canada, an electrical engineer who from boyhood was closely associated with Tesla.'
Were these events the inspiration for the old Superman story? Certain cults and societies believe that Venus has life. Unarians and Aetherians believe that beautiful lifeforms come from Venus. Alan Moseley, from the Aetheius Society, has said: 'Jesus is from Venus, in our understanding: so is the intelligence we refer to as Buddha. More and more information is going to come to light which definitely will reveal the fact that there is advanced life, intelligent life within this solar system...' These believers in Venusian life were well established before scientists and technology answered the question of what is on Venus.
In 1962, the U.S. launched Mariner 2 and it showed that Venus is far hotter than it should be. The Russians sent numerous probes to Venus. Scientists learned Venus was a dry, dead planet; suffocated with carbon dioxide; temperatures that would melt lead; enough pressure to crush a freight train and mysterious clouds composed of super-corrosive sulfuric acid. Data absolutely proved that Venus was no Earth twin or idyllic paradise. Our sister in space is pure hell! Life as we know it could not exist on Venus.
Huge mountain ranges were discovered. A Venusian day equals 243 Earth days. Venus is an oddity just for a retrograde rotation; the reverse of nearly every known object in the solar system.
In 1978, the U.S. launched Pioneer and discovered that the surface of Venus was hottest of all known planets: nearly 1000 degrees. The planet's pressure was equal to an ocean depth of 3000 feet. But the most baffling question was: 'How could Venus have turned out so drastically different than the Earth? Venus should only be 90 degrees warmer than Earth and it is 10 times hotter. Some experts thought Venus has a 'runaway greenhouse effect.' Very little Venusian heat escapes into space. Thick clouds keep the heat inside like a greenhouse or pressure-cooker.
A more ambitious mission to the second planet was needed to answer: What was happening under the clouds and how was Venus losing its heat? In 1989, Magellan was launched. Astronomers and planetary geologists laid out theories as to what might be found. They expected to find an extremely active planet with mobile plate tectonics and violent volcanos like Jupiter's Io. The Magellan probe created far more questions than it answered:
Venus has no surface activity. There were no tectonics, fault lines or active volcanoes. The planet was much more lifeless than the Moon. Venus had to be losing or releasing its energy in some unknown or unearthly way. There were craters! No one expected heavy cratering. The most astounding and mind-blowing discovery occurred when scientists computed these craters. This was the most intense cratering in the solar system.
(which makes no sense) All planets have an uneven pattern of craters. Old areas have many craters and newer areas have been resurfaced with fewer craters. Venus is completely unique for having a perfectly uniform and random pattern of craters over the entire planet. The implications are unbelievable. The surface of Venus has not changed in many millions of years! Another oddity is Venus turns out to be much younger than Earth; only 500 million years.
The planet's steep slopes and tall mountains are another mystery. The surface temperature is halfway to the melting point of rock; therefore the land should behave as if it were soft plastic. Instead, the surface material is at least 10 times harder than Earth rocks. The unexpected high-density does explain how the steep mountains remain upright. Venus has held its topographic shape since its creation. But, how is Venus releasing its heat if there is no evidence of planetary change? Where is the energy going?
What is inside Venus? Scientists have theorized there is a thick lithosphere (crust). The interior is presumed to be extremely hot and molten. But, how can that be on a planet of no change?
The answers are beyond our scientific means but not beyond our imagination. The Venus cults may not be so foolish in their belief of intelligent life. Of course, there is no life on Venus. But life could exist inside Venus where no NASA probes could ever go. If you were a super sophisticated race, where better to hide your world than inside an exterior of hellish conditions?
Is Venus heaven? Imagine that: heaven inside a ball of hell. Why assume a lifeless world when we have this utter oddity known as the Planet of Beauty? Could the civilization inside be utilizing the energy?
In Star Trek's Next Generation, the Enterprise encounters a Dyson Sphere. A Dyson Sphere was a HUGE artificial ball constructed literally around a sun. People lived on the interior of the sphere. And, in Star Wars, there is the Deathstar.
Venus functions more like an artificial orb than any natural formation. Science is not going to discover and broadcast the real answers. We might be closer to the truth by dropping conventional techniques and simply using our imagination.
