"God, If you're really there..."

by John Joseph Sylvia IV

"God, if you're really there,"

Said the boy as he knelt down in prayer.

"We need to have a little talk,"

He mumbled as he began to sulk.

"I'm afraid my mommy and daddy are mad at me,

It's very easy to see.

I hear them yelling as I lie in bed,

While picturing their screaming faces turning red.

God, if you're really there,"

Said the boy, hoping someone would care.

"I never meant to make them mad,

I didn't try to be so bad!

I'm afraid my mommy and daddy no longer love me,

I know I'm not as good as I used to be.

Because of me they always yell and complain,

They must think I'm going insane!

God, if you're really there,"

Said the boy with his head resting on his head of hair.

"In the past I've never needed you,

But now I really need to know what I should do.

Maybe if I pack my bags and run away,

My parents will finally have a peaceful day.

Or maybe I'll do what I've seen on TV,

Where they jump off a bridge and soar so free.

God, if you're really there,"

Said the boy, locked in a spacy stare.

"Help me in my time of need.

Heal this wound so it will no longer bleed.

My parents don't deserve this, they're good to me.

Help us return to our former state of glee."

WIth these words a tear rolled from the boy's eye,

And within a moments he broke into a full cry.

"God if you're really there,

I want you to know you're my last despair."

Now lying in his comfortable bed,

The boy closed his eyes as he layed back his head.

As he began to drift away,

He realized things weren't his fault

and in the end everything would be okay.

And even though he wasn't fully aware,

He knew God was really there.
