Introduction

This is a true story with profound implications. It is the story of Dr. Jonathan Reed, a research psychologist living, at the time of his encounter, near Seattle, Washington State in the U.S. . Dr. Reed met a strange creature which was later determined to be an ET, while hiking in the Cascade Mountains near Seattle with his Golden Retriever, Suzy, in October of 1996. He confronted, and apparently killed the being after it had killed and destroyed Suzy his dog. Dr. Reed has been in hiding after disclosing his encounter to certain organizations and close friends. His bank account was drained, his college transcripts erased and his career and credentials obliterated. Jonathan and several of his friends have been threatened and hurt. One of his friends may have been killed to cover up this incident.

These actions appear to have been undertaken by sub-governmental agencies, particularly the NSA, in an effort to keep Dr. Reed and others from revealing these facts. We are asking you to refrain from the usual apathy that stories like these sometimes seem to elicit. I am challenging you to accept the inescapable facts of our contact with extraterrestrial intelligence and embrace it. We also challenge you to deplore the horrible actions taken against Dr. Reed and help him. Please refer to the section entitled "How to Help" for more information.

About this Document

If we don't do something about this now - than we have all Lost… I do not believe that we can stand by hoping that these facts will gradually be revealed to us while people like Dr. Reed are persecuted. We deserve to know the truth. Dr. Reed, and others like him, deserve the normal rights granted to all U.S. Citizens. Partake of the spirit of our past and resist the urge to wait for the government to "take care of it" - it appears to have taken the wrong path and we must join together to correct it. This document is designed to be portable and easily reproduced. It is created in gray scale to reduce size, increase image clarity and to make the document printable on the widest array of printers. It is our wish that it be distributed freely and frequently.

The Encounter

Dr. Reed's encounter took place in October of 1996 in the early afternoon on a hiking trail. The trail is east of Seattle, Washington near Snoqualmie Pass in the forests of the Cascade Mountains. He had been hiking for about an hour and half when the encounter began… Suzy, Dr. Reed's 7-year-old Golden Retriever, ran ahead of him and disappeared over a rise. She began barking frantically, louder and louder. Dr. Reed dropped his backpack and ran up the slope where Suzy disappeared. He picked up a tree branch on the way, thinking that he might need it to rescue her from some kind of animal. Topping the rise, he saw that Suzy had a strange creature by the left arm.

The creature was shaking violently in an attempt to dislodge the dog. He yelled "Suzy, let go!" The dog released the creature and backed away. At the same instant, the creature extended a "fleshy peudopod" around the dog's snout and severely wounded her. Suzy's tissues seemed to "flow" into this wound. She was consumed in a matter of seconds. Later, Dr. Reed could find no trace of her except for a fine white powder on the ground. The creature turned to look at Dr. Reed with an expression of what seemed to be pure rage then turned its head back to look at Suzy. Jonathan ran forward at this point and hit the creature with the branch with all of the force he could muster. He knocked the creature back about four feet. The creature lay dead on the ground covered in it's own blood.

The reality of the encounter descended and Jonathan panicked. He fell to the ground in utter shock and sat there for some time trying to regain his sanity. Finally, he remembered the camera equipment he usually carries on his frequent hikes, ran back for his backpack and began taking pictures and video tape footage of the creature.

A short while later, Jonathan became aware of a strange, low frequency vibration. He surveyed the area and discovered a black (craft-like) device floating above the ground near by. He approached the object and touched it. It was freezing cold and burned his hand. He took pictures of the machine from all angles. The video camera began to malfunction and distort when he got too close. After several hours, Jonathan still very sick, decided to wrap the creature in a survival blanket that he had with him. Initially, he was going to leave the creature there and come back for it but he reached his car before he found an adequate hiding place. He decided then to take the creature with him back to Seattle.

The Ordeal

Jonathan took the creature home and put it into his home-freezer thinking to preserve it. He called several of his friends that evening but found none of them home. The next day, his friend Gary came over and they examined the creature together. They also returned to the site of the encounter in an attempt to get the object. They found it gone and the area seemed to have been utterly restored and pristine. It was as if the event had never occurred. Over the next few days, Gary and Jonathan began to contact various agencies in an attempt to figure out a way to deal with the creature.

They began to be followed by strange cars and vans. Jonathan was visited by three agents who told him, in essence, that he should remain silent or else suffer horrible consequences. The agents stated that they worked with the NSA. Apparently, Dr. Reed had already said too much. A few days later, Jonathan found his office emptied and was told that he had never worked for his former employer. The harassment by strange people and vehicles continued and, at one point, he and Gary were forced off the road, and almost killed! Around the forth day of the ordeal, Jonathan heard noises coming from within the freezer. He opened it and the creature was alive! Reduced to a now familiar state of panic, he slammed the freezer shut, ran for the house and called his friend over. Together they opened it again and the creature screamed at them!

Over the next few days, Jonathan attempted many times to communicate with the creature and did so. He tried to feed it but it refused all food. It did, however, drink water. It seemed to prefer being in the freezer!

On the about the ninth day, Jonathan came home to find a number of vans and cars parked around his house. He prudently decided to keep going. He re- turned later to find his house literally taken apart and his personal posses- sions stolen. The walls of the house had been torn open, the floor boards pried up, the furniture ripped to shreds and the garage ransacked. The garage doors had been pried from the walls and lay in a heap. The freezer and the creature were gone. Fearing for their lives, Jonathan and his friend Gary decided to flee. They both managed to hang on to some of the pictures, videos and other evi- dence of the event. Some of this material they gave to a third friend, Dolly. They left Seattle that same day and went in different directions. Since then, Dr. Reed has been in hiding underground.

The Aftermath

Dr. Reed has written a book with his associate, Robert Raith during the inter- vening few years. The book is finished and they have been attempting to get it published. At least five publishers have agreed to publish the book, only to back out inexplicably at the last moment. Jonathan has had several other on-going unpleasant encounters with sub-governmental type-agents. Gary has only recently contacted Jonathan again but has not been forthcoming concerning his tribulations and safety conditions. Another of Jonathan's friends, Dolly, is dead. He called her one day to make an appoint- ment to get the materials he left with her. Two hours later he went to her house to collect them and found Dolly lying dead on the floor. There was no sign of his material.

The official death certificate lists a heart attack as the cause of death. Jonathan has been able to air his story, three times, on "The Art Bell Show". He has also managed three speaking engagements. The first, lecturing to the San Diego UFO Society and showed his video footage for the first time. The lecture left the audience staggering, somewhat shaken and very thoughtful. It was an extremely moving event for both Jonathan and for the audience. Returning to his hiding place from San Diego, Jonathan was once again confronted by agents unknown. He is reluctant to reveal this last encounter. He is concerned that it is too sensational and would lead some to feel it was only a publicity stunt. Truly NOT what he is looking for. When I last talked to him, Jonathan was still eager and optimistic about getting his story out, despite the latest, very serious and terrifying encounter.

Jonathan Reed is unique. He is the only truly courageous man I have ever met. I do not think I would have survived his ordeal. I know that I could not face life with the equanimity that he has managed were I in his shoes. The next chapter in his ordeal is opening. Please be a part of it. Give all of the help you can render! Let it be said in the next account that people the world over, overwhelmingly came to his rescue.
