The Great Ages represents the development of the Human Mind from its original inception to its crowning achievement. This process is not far from completion and most of us will have felt the shifting pressures of an inner drive for something more, along with the compression of time upon those aspirations.

We stand upon the brink of a major achievement. This period of development has been indicated by keynote periods. Each is denoted by the 22 major arcana of the Tarot. Each period in the Western culture has a keynote symbol which is prevalent over that time period, along with the events that indicate its symbolism. The important aspect to understand is that these periods are in inverse square proportion to each other, ie period 1923 - 1963 =40 yrs, 63 - 83 = 20 yrs, 83 - 93 = 10 yrs.

There is a corresponding vibrational rate to be achieved within each period, hence the pressure within each period feels intense. The key to comfortably negotiating these phases is surrender, as it is resistance to these compressing energies that causes the difficulties.

Below is a list of the recent periods.

1993 - 1998: The Sunflower (#19)

The keynote for this phase is To Receive and Implement Wisdom. In this time period many new philosophies/ideologies relating to personal growth and a concept of one Creative Force have become available. The Sunflower was a very prominent symbol during this phase in the collective psyche of the populace.

There is a cusping period before and after any event when the old energy is fading and the new is being born. The beginning of this cusping period coincided with the deaths of Princess Diana and Mother Theresa of Calcutta in the same week. Later in the year, The Angel of the North sculpture was erected in Gateshead. (The Head of the Gate?)

The keynote for this period is to Assist Realisation In Others. The symbol of Key 20 is an angel calling the dead from their coffins. This period is equivalent to a wake up call, from those who are aware of the divinity of all life to those who are not, on all levels of existence. The Angel has been highly prominent in both commercial and media fields during this period.

As the compression continues we will become more aware of the unities between us than the differences. However, it is necessary for all of our aspects to be brought into the light so that integration can occur. I expect to see the dark side of humanity expressing itself very strongly so that it can be integrated. What you don't see can control, therefore to have integration, we need all of our parts to be on display, both personally and internationally. The keynote for this period is to Balance Intellect and Intuition and so reconcile dark and light at all levels of society as well as personally. The symbol will be the prominence of trans-sexuality, reversed gender roles and an awareness of the need to integrate. Look out for the Hindu god Shiva to be particularly prominent.

The final phase. This period recognises the unity of all things. That all separation is illusory and it is the time for mankind to step into a new reality where all exists in a permanent Now of creation. A need to respond to the moment instead of planning. The keynote is To Step Into Infinity. The symbol is likely to be the figure 0 or the Greek letter Y (omega). Possibly the Joker from the playing card deck, or harlequins, will have prominence.

Beyond 2002 is a 10.5 year wait until the conclusion of the Mayan Calendrical Cycle. After the Solar Eclipse on 10th June 2002, it is likely that one of two things will happen. Bear in mind that the lesson for the whole 22 cycle period has been to achieve Balance on all levels Note the year 2002. (The 2's are given exceptional intensity by the double 0 between them).

Firstly, the door to external influence will be closed. This will mean 10 years of no further external enlightenment and so our route toward 2012 must be achieved by drawing upon our own resources.

Alternatively, the door to external forces will be flung wide open so that all manner of information and influence will be available. This would require balance and discernment to achieve our aim, whatever it may be. Obviously the last section is speculation and I leave you to discern for yourself its viability and implications. Whatever happens, we certainly live in 'interesting' times.
