NASA Has A Taste OF Humble Pie...12/10/99
by Mitch Battros  (ECTV)

Maybe NASA will think twice before they make fun of those who believe there is something unusual regarding Mars. Maybe the days of displaying a "Smiley Face" which was intended to make fools of those who believe there was (and maybe is) intelligent life on Mars. This was  NASA's response and attitude toward those of us who believe in the "face on mars" and its  probable connection to Egypt, i.e. our world. I for one surely hope their recent display of incompetence will shuffle closed minds and personalities within the sacred walls. It is hard to fathom how such a group of all knowing elitist with a supposed superior link to insight and information of our extended world known as space and universe, could have made such fundamental calculation errors.

The strong comments above are not meant for all that work with NASA, just those who come from the old style "good ole boy" corporate structure which demands single minded narrow thinking. I realize there is a new breed of scientist now working who have a more open mind, many of which do actually have the mind set of "we are all just kind of guessing".

My hope is the two articles below are a sign of things to come. As stated some months ago, there are enough ego's on both side of this issue (life on Mars) to go around. I am hopeful we can find a middle ground of dignity and respect, which includes hard science as well as that of the esoteric. Never before have the two been closer together.

NASA To Re-Evaluate Entire Mars Program...12/09/99

(CNN) Though the chance of success is now slim, NASA scientists are still trying to contact the missing Mars Polar Lander, and those efforts will continue for two weeks. Scenarios for contacting the lander are more complicated now, and even less plausible than those already tried, said Richard Cook, the spacecraft's operations manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The last realistic opportunity to contact the Mars Polar Lander ended Tuesday with no response from the spacecraft.

Researchers Suspect Mars Had Oceans...12/10/99

WASHINGTON (AP) - Scientists studying polar areas of Mars have found features that might once have been an ancient coastline. The theory that the Red Planet once had water has long been of interest to scientists, and a group led by James W. Head III of Brown University searched data collected by Mars Global Surveyor for confirmation. They found a geological feature extending around the northern third of the planet like a bathtub ring. This, they speculate in Friday's issue of the journal Science, could be evidence that ocean waves once lapped at a coast there. There are terraces parallel to the ring in many places, as often occur under oceans on earth, and the area within the ring had fewer meteor craters than other parts of the plant, possibly indicating an area protected by a layer of water.
