South African Wall Relief Imagery
by Simon Gerrard

Wall Painting Analysis # 1 ( Horizontal )

Reversed contrast here to throw the rock topography into better relief. From the left, observe the amphibian-looking creature with the beak in brown colouration. I can see similarities to this in earlier Nasca Indian earth works in S America, and I cannot say what species it represents; I would venture the modern-day animal such as the turtle fits the bill, facially. However these are ancient times so I wonder if turtles were around then. Moving along, as they say, you will encounter a green image of a reptile creature suggestive of a lizard. Note the artistic perspective and sublimation into the canine-looking creature in pink colouration ( I apologise for overdoing the nose ! ). Continuing, right, you will continue to observe a yellow outline of another canine-looking craeture redolent of the Mayan submisions of mine in other magazine issues. Now things take an interesting and corroborative turn : see the turquoise and red lizard creatures ? Both seem to be engaged in consulting a device of sorts which I have suggested, in other magazine features, is a microscope. [ c.f. the Egyptian and Mayan bitmaps ]. Of note is the design of the device the red lizard is looking at. I suggest this is a possibly an instrument panel, too, if we are looking at a craft of sorts which you will see later ( remember, these images serve other allied themes ). Is this lizard the same chap featured in the Oklahoma City street plans ( and mythology generally ) as ' Anu ' ?

Wall Painting Analysis # 2 ( Horizontal )

This is not a detailed annotation, since the broad outlines of three embyonic creatures were immediately apparent to me, particularly in the light of the Egyptian Pottery Shard analysis submitted last month. Its a variation on the same theme. All I can ask is that you consult this submission. Basically, this is a tableaux of embryos in various stages of growth.
